Early Life and Background

James Stephen Donaldson, widely recognized by his online alias MrBeast, was born on May 7, 1998, in Wichita, Kansas, USA. He spent his formative years in Greenville, North Carolina, where he was raised in a middle-class household. Donaldson graduated from Greenville Christian Academy in 2016 and briefly attended East Carolina University before dropping out to pursue a full-time career on YouTube. 

Rise to YouTube Stardom

MrBeast began his YouTube journey in 2012 at the age of 13, initially posting content under the handle "MrBeast6000." His early videos included Let's Plays and estimations of other YouTubers' wealth. He gained significant attention in 2017 with a video where he counted to 100,000, which went viral and marked a turning point in his career. 

Over time, MrBeast became known for his high-budget stunts, elaborate challenges, and generous giveaways. His content often features large-scale philanthropic efforts, such as giving away millions of dollars, cars, and even a private island.

Beyond YouTube, MrBeast has expanded his brand into various business ventures. He launched MrBeast Burger, a virtual restaurant brand, and Feastables, a line of chocolate bars. MrBeast is renowned for his philanthropic initiatives. In 2019, he co-launched #TeamTrees, a campaign that successfully raised over $20 million to plant more than 20 million trees. In 2021, he initiated #TeamSeas, aiming to remove 30 million pounds of trash from oceans, rivers, and beaches, surpassing its goal by raising over $34 million. 

He also established Beast Philanthropy, a YouTube channel dedicated to charitable acts, where 100% of the revenue is donated to various causes. Notable efforts include funding eye surgeries for 1,000 individuals to restore their vision and building 100 wells in Africa to provide clean water. 

Personal Life

MrBeast has been open about his personal life, including his diagnosis with Crohn's disease. He is currently in a relationship with Thea Booysen, a South African author and Twitch streamer. 

Controversies and Challenges

Despite his positive public image, MrBeast has faced controversies. In 2018, past tweets containing offensive language resurfaced, leading to public criticism. Additionally, his Amazon Prime show "Beast Games" faced allegations regarding production safety, and a former employee accused him of creating a toxic work environment.

As of 2025, MrBeast continues to dominate the digital landscape with over 386 million subscribers on his main YouTube channel, making it the most-subscribed channel on the platform. He maintains a strong presence across various social media platforms and continues to engage in philanthropic activities, solidifying his status as a leading figure in online entertainment and social impact.
